Acupuncture
Acupuncture uses very fine, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to support balance, adaptability, and a greater sense of ease. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is based on the understanding that health arises from the dynamic relationship between body, mind, spirit and environment.
Diagnosis in acupuncture focuses on identifying patterns of imbalance, addressing both underlying causes and presenting symptoms. This approach often supports more sustainable, longer‑lasting change.
From a Western perspective, acupuncture is understood to work through:
Stimulation of nerve fibres
Release of neurotransmitters and hormones, including endorphins
Together, these effects are thought to help regulate the nervous system to aid a wide range of symptoms, such as pain, nausea and stress, promoting a sense of flow and connection.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practised for over 2,000 years. While grounded in established principles, it continues to evolve and is increasingly recognised within contemporary healthcare. I have practised acupuncture in NHS Oncology settings, women’s refuge and drug and alcohol services alongside private practice, offering both individual and lower‑cost multibed sessions. I have also been a locum clinical supervisor at the Northern College of Acupuncture.
All acupuncture treatments are provided in line with British Acupuncture Council guidelines. I am fully insured and hold a DBS check. Needles are sterile, single‑use, and disposed of safely. Many people report improvements not only in specific symptoms, but also in overall health.
You may choose a private 1:1 acupuncture session or combine acupuncture with psychotherapy.
Lower cost solidarity fees are available—please ask for details.
