Combined Psychotherapy with Acupuncture and/or Shiatsu
Current neuroscience increasingly recognises the importance of somatic approaches within talking therapies. Emotional and physical experiences are deeply interconnected, and working with both can support a greater sense of integration and wholeness.
A core tenet of TCM approaches and cited in the Huangdi Neijing;
“The majority of physical diseases are caused by internal emotional factors.”
Whilst there is some debate over this, there is no doubt that there is a direct and bidirectional correlation between the two. It makes sense to work with both; an area that has a growing research base.
A blended approach may be helpful if you experience:
Strong physical responses alongside emotional distress
Numbness or disconnection from your body
Difficulty finding words for your experience
A sense of being stuck
Over‑intellectualisation or disconnection from felt experience
Situations where working in the present moment is essential
An interest in learning self‑acupressure or Shiatsu techniques
A calming response to safe, attuned touch
Touch can be extremely powerful. I will listen and adapt to what arises in the session, in your body in the present moment and always within a framework of safety, grounded in relationship and ethics.
“Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain”
